The Challenge
The Animal Care Group of Saskatoon consists of 4 veterinary clinics that have been providing personalized service and compassionate care to their furry clients for decades. Central Animal Hospital, All West Veterinary Clinic, Lakeview Veterinary Clinic, and Westward Animal Hospital joined together in 2007 to create The Animal Care Group of Saskatoon.
Like most businesses, The Animal Care Group of Saskatoon wanted to grow their business. Their goal was to attract new customers while maintaining their existing customer base. Each clinic has advertised in the SaskTel Phonebook since they opened their doors. “Advertising in the SaskTel Phonebook just makes sense. I know it’s the first place people look when they need veterinary service for their animals,” said Wilna van Beek who is the corporate administrator for the Group.
The Solution
In the past, when the four veterinary clinics advertised separately, each clinic placed smaller individual ads. In 2007, the Animal Care Group of Saskatoon placed a joint ad for all four clinics, increasing their ad size to a double page full colour ad. This increased ad size placed them at the front of the Veterinarians heading in the Yellow Section, which makes them the first ad seen!
“We tend to get a lot of our business from referrals but no one ever remembers our numbers, just our clinic names. With our ad in the yellow section under veterinarians and our alphabetical listing in the white section, our customers can always find us,” Wilna explains.

“This helps us reach customers from all across Saskatchewan. We even have a customer that brings her cats all the way from Manitoba for their annual check ups.”
The Result
“We know that the SaskTel Phonebook gets the phone ringing and we can prove it,” she adds. DirectWest conducted a study to identify the number of calls generated by their yellow section ad.
